Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis) is native to the Cederberg Mountains in South Africas Western Cape, where the shrubs needle-like leaves have been brewed for centuries by the regions indigenous peoples. Today, rooibos is enjoyed worldwide as a popular herbal tea, known for its deep red colour and smooth flavour with natural sweetness and subtle nutty undertones.
It grows only in the southwestern Cape, adapted to the regions climate and sandy, acidic soils. The name rooibos (red bush) comes from the reddish leaves, which are fermented in the open air during the hot summer months, usually in January and February.
Naturally caffeine-free and low in tannins, rooibos is rich in antioxidants and valued as a healthful alternative to coffee and traditional tea.
This rooibos is organically cultivated in the Cederberg Mountains. Its taste is earthy, warm and invigorating.
